From the eastern side of Kosi upto Kunming it was an vast expense of land which was ruled from Lahsa with Buddhist influence from 1000 AD roughly and was named Yarlung after mighty Brahmaputra which watered these areas with its tributaries Teesta, Irrawadi and Mekong.

This is the time when Buddhism spread to all these areas and a string of monasteries were established along with Nalanda university with its out-campuses. The warrior tribes in the mountains and the more diplomatic communities in the plains ruled by Mech, Koch, Virat, Kirat, Kichak, Dhimal, Bodo, Ahom kings paid the alliances to Lhasa during which times safe horse routes were established for monks as well as traders.
